Gil Shamai received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the Department of Electrical Engineering in 2012 and 2015 at the Technion, and currently doing a direct Ph.D. at the Geometric Image processing (GIP) laboratory, headed by Prof. Ron Kimmel. His initial interests were theoretical and computational methods in metric geometry and their application to problems in manifold learning, multidimensional scaling procedures and fast geodesics computation. Later on, he focused on 3D human face synthesis and reconstruction using adversarial neural networks.
During his Ph.D, with the support of his colleagues, he showed that the cancer imprints a signature that is reflected in morphological structures of the tumour, and that artificial intelligence can identify this signature and extract essential information on the molecular profile of the cancer. His current interests are in developing new deep learning optimizations.
